The TestGorilla assessment for my marketing coordinator role was surprisingly diverse! It wasn’t just a slog of multiple-choice questions. There were interactive elements, like sorting marketing campaign ideas into categories based on target audience and budget. Plus, I had to write a short email responding to a customer complaint, which definitely tested my communication skills under pressure. Overall, it felt more like a real-world scenario than a traditional test, which I actually enjoyed.

Results Scale and Interpretations

While the process might seem daunting, understanding your score report can be empowering. This guide will break down each component and explain its significance, helping you leverage your results for maximum impact.

Beyond the Single Number:

Your TestGorilla score report offers a wealth of information beyond just a single score. Here’s a breakdown of what each element reveals:

Raw Score: This number represents the percentage of questions you answered correctly in each test. While it serves as a basic measure of accuracy, it’s important to remember that it doesn’t account for the difficulty of the test or how you compare to other test-takers. Think of it as a starting point, not the whole story.

Percentile Ranking: This is where things get interesting. Your percentile ranking compares your score to a large pool of individuals who have taken the same test. It essentially indicates the percentage of test-takers you outperformed. For example, a 75th percentile ranking means you performed better than 75% of others who took the test. This can be a valuable benchmark for potential employers, showcasing your relative standing and highlighting your strengths.

Sub-Scores (for specific tests): Not all tests are created equal. Some delve deeper by offering breakdowns of your performance in specific skill areas, such as problem-solving or communication. These sub-scores are like hidden gems, granting you valuable insights into your strengths and weaknesses within specific skillsets. Did you ace the written communication section but struggle with data analysis? This detailed information allows you to tailor your responses and highlight your strongest skills during the interview, demonstrating your potential for growth and development in targeted areas.

Score Range: Ever wonder where your score stands on the spectrum? The score range provides context for your individual performance by showcasing the typical range of scores observed for the specific test you took. This allows you to understand if you’re above, within, or below the average, offering valuable perspective on your relative standing compared to other test-takers.

Understanding Your Score: An Example

Let’s imagine you took a TestGorilla Communication Skills test and received the following results:

  • Raw Score: 75%
  • Percentile Ranking: 82nd
  • Sub-Scores:
    • Written Expression: 85%
    • Public Speaking: 70%
  • Score Range: 50% – 85%

What does this mean?

  • Your raw score of 75% indicates you answered 75% of the questions correctly. While good, consider this a starting point.
  • Your percentile ranking of 82nd means you outperformed 82% of test-takers, showcasing your strong overall communication skills.
  • The sub-scores reveal strengths and weaknesses. Your high Writing Expression score implies effective written communication, while the Public Speaking score suggests potential for improvement.
  • Looking at the score range, you see your score falls within the upper half, exceeding the average performance.

Key Takeaways:

This example demonstrates how each score component provides valuable insights. While a single number gives a basic idea, the deeper analysis empowers you to understand your strengths, identify areas for development, and showcase your potential during the interview.

FAQs

What types of skills does the test measure?

The specific skills assessed by TestGorilla vary depending on the job requirements and chosen tests. However, they generally cover areas like cognitive ability, problem-solving, communication, and work ethic. Cognitive ability tests might assess your attention to detail, critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Communication tests might evaluate your written and verbal communication skills, clarity, and conciseness. Work ethic assessments could look at your time management, organization, and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Additionally, depending on the specific role, tests might delve into technical skills, software proficiency, or industry knowledge.

How long does the test take?

Test duration varies depending on the specific tests included in your assessment, but typically ranges from 15 to 60 minutes. The platform will usually provide an estimated time frame for each test before you begin, so you can plan accordingly.

Can I retake the test?

In most cases, no. Retaking the test undermines its fairness and validity. It allows individuals to memorize questions and gain an unfair advantage over others. Additionally, it doesn’t accurately reflect your current skills and potential, as you might simply remember the correct answers from the previous attempt.

What format does the test follow?

TestGorilla assessments use a mix of question formats to comprehensively evaluate your abilities. You might encounter multiple-choice questions where you select the best answer from a set of options, true/false questions requiring you to judge statements as true or false, and essay questions where you write a short response demonstrating your analytical thinking and communication skills. Additionally, some tests might incorporate situational judgment questions, where you choose the most appropriate response to a work-related scenario, assessing your decision-making abilities. For specific roles, coding challenges might be included to evaluate your technical skills and problem-solving approach, while video recordings could assess your communication and presentation skills by asking you to respond to prompts or complete tasks on camera.

Can I use a calculator or other resources?

Whether you can use external resources like a calculator depends on the specific test. Some assessments might allow basic calculators for specific sections, while others require you to work without any external aid. The platform will clearly indicate what resources are permitted before you begin the test, so you can ensure you’re prepared.

Can I take the test on any device?

Most TestGorilla assessments are compatible with a variety of devices, including desktops and laptops with reliable internet connection, iPads and Android tablets with supported browsers, and even Android and iOS smartphones with the TestGorilla app installed. Ensure your device meets the technical requirements outlined by the platform before starting the test to avoid any compatibility issues.

How is the test scored?

Your TestGorilla score is based on the number of correct answers you provide, and depending on the specific assessment, it might be adjusted for test difficulty to ensure fairness across different evaluations. Some tests offer sub-scores in specific skill areas, providing a more detailed breakdown of your performance and highlighting your strengths and weaknesses in different domains.

Will I receive feedback on my performance?

In some cases, you might receive general feedback after completing the test, such as your overall score range or areas for potential improvement. However, detailed feedback on specific questions or your answers is usually not provided. This is to maintain test security and prevent individuals from memorizing content and gaining an unfair advantage in future assessments.

When will I know my results?

You won’t have to wait long to see your results! You will typically receive your score report immediately after completing the test. The platform will display your overall score, percentile ranking (if applicable), and any sub-scores, giving you a quick snapshot of your performance.

How does the test affect my job application?

While your TestGorilla score is an important factor considered by employers during the hiring process, it’s just one piece of the puzzle. It’s combined with other information like your resume, cover letter, interview performance, and references to get a well-rounded view of your qualifications and suitability for the role. A strong score can definitely boost your application and showcase your potential, but it’s important to remember that it’s not the sole determinant of your success.

Can I see the specific questions I answered incorrectly?

No, to maintain test security and fairness, specific question details and your answers are not shared. This prevents individuals from memorizing questions and gaining an unfair advantage in future assessments. Trust that the scoring system accurately reflects your performance, and focus on demonstrating your skills and potential through other aspects of your application and interview.

Test Tips

So, the TestGorilla assessment looms, and your palms are getting sweaty. Worry not, test warrior! Here are 7 battle-tested tips to transform your anxiety into A-worthy confidence:

  1. Befriend the Clock: Time management is crucial. Skim the test format beforehand to gauge approximate time per question. Don’t get stuck – flag and move on, then come back if time allows. Remember, attempting more questions is often better than dwelling on a single one.
  2. Channel Your Inner Zen: Breathe deeply, close your eyes for a few seconds. Nerves cloud judgment. Stay calm, stay focused, and trust your abilities. You’ve got this!
  3. Read. Re-read. Conquer: Don’t be a speed demon. Read each question carefully, identify keywords, and eliminate clearly wrong answers first. Rushing leads to misreadings and costly mistakes. Precision over speed, always.
  4. Embrace educated guesses: If you’re truly stumped, don’t leave it blank! Make an educated guess based on logic and elimination. Remember, even a 50/50 shot is better than no shot at all.
  5. Show, don’t just tell: In essay questions, avoid generic answers. Demonstrate your critical thinking: analyze, provide examples, and showcase your unique perspective. Remember, you’re not just answering a question; you’re showcasing your potential.
  6. Sub-Scores: Your Secret Weapon: Some tests offer breakdowns of your performance in specific areas. If available, analyze these sub-scores afterward. Identify your strengths and weaknesses. This self-awareness will be gold during the interview, allowing you to highlight your best skills and address any areas for improvement.
  7. Review, Reflect, Refine: After the test, take a moment to reflect on your experience. What went well? What could you improve? This self-reflection, even for non-scored practice tests, is valuable for future assessments and honing your overall test-taking skills.

Administration

  • Test Location: The beauty of TestGorilla? You take it online! No need to travel to a specific testing center. Just find a quiet space with a reliable internet connection and your chosen device.
  • Test Schedule: Flexibility is key! Employers set the deadline, but you choose the specific date and time within that window that works best for you. Schedule when you’re focused and ready to shine.
  • Test Format: Buckle up for a digital adventure! The test is entirely computer-based, utilizing various question formats like multiple-choice, true/false, and even essay questions depending on the specific assessment.
  • Test Materials: Pack light! Pen and paper are not allowed during the test. However, the platform provides an on-screen scratchpad for jotting down notes. Remember, it’s all digital!
  • Cost: Good news! You, as the test taker, don’t incur any cost for taking the TestGorilla assessment. The employer typically covers the fees associated with administering the test.
  • Retake Policy: Think twice before hitting retry! Most employers allow only one attempt at the TestGorilla assessment to maintain fairness and test integrity. So, make the most of your shot!

Numerical Reasoning Question

What is the next number in the following series of numbers?

203616     101808     50904     25452     12726

  • 6374
  • 6363
  • 6371
  • 6362

The correct answer is 6363.

Explanation: At a first glance, this problem seems to include tedious subtraction or division. Nonetheless, the problems in cognitive ability tests almost always have the potential to be solved quickly.

In this problem, two observations should lead you to the correct answer:

Observation 1 – The value of each number has half of the value of the previous number. While it might take you time to corroborate this observation, you can take into consideration that these are cognitive ability tests, so they cannot present a series of numbers that can only be deciphered by using a calculator.

Observation 2 – Only a single answer is a plausible correct answer. The last number in the series is 12726. Any number which ends with a 6 and is divided by 2 yields either a number that ends with 3 (e.g. 26/2 = 13) or 8 (e.g. 16/2 = 8). There are no other options. Of the four options, only 6363 is in line with this observation. Therefore, it can be immediately marked as the correct answer even if you decide not to perform the complete calculation.

Critical Thinking Question

First Type – Inference

There are three general groups of countries that show the relationship between personal income and happiness levels. In some countries (such as Germany), both personal incomes and happiness levels have increased at the same rate over the past 10 years. In others (such as China), personal incomes have doubled over the past decade, but average happiness has increased by only 0.43 points. In 43 countries (including India and the US), incomes have risen, but happiness levels have declined.

Inference – The happiness level in some countries can be higher or lower than in others with the same personal income levels.

  • True
  •  Probably True
  •  Insufficient Data
  •  Probably False
  •  False

The correct answer is Probably True.

Source: iPREP

Given that the relationship between personal incomes and happiness levels is shown to have three different correlations, it is probably true that countries with the same personal income levels can be correlated with both those with higher and lower happiness levels. Though one cannot infer this with complete certainty, given that the evidence does not enable such as definite inference, there is sufficient evidence here of the three different correlations between income levels and happiness to make it probably true that these correlations include the possibility given here.

Reading Comprehension Question

There is meaning behind certain colors. Let’s examine the meaning behind two colors that seem to be used quite a bit – red and black. Red is generally associated with energy, power, strength, and determination. Red is commonly used in many sports uniforms because of all the above-mentioned ideas associated with it. Then there is black, which is associated with power. There are other things black is associated with such as evil, death, and elegance, and in sports, the focus is on its meaning of power. These two colors, red and black, are common in almost every NFL team’s uniform. Sixteen out of the thirty-two teams in the NFL have these colors in their uniform. That is very telling considering the meanings of these two colors.

Black is a common color for sports uniforms because it reflects positively on the __________ of the team.

  1. Elegance
  2. Strength
  3. Power
  4. Evil

The correct answer is C.

Source: iPREP

The second paragraph focuses on the traits associated with the red and black colors. You should look for the traits associated with black to answer the questions.

Of the four answers, three are associated with black – elegance, power, and evil. However, the paragraph emphasizes that in the context of sports, black is chosen as a uniform color for its association with “power.” “Power” is also associated with red. If you are not a careful reader, it might lead you to eliminate it from being the correct answer.

Tip: As you may assume that colors should reflect on positive, sports-related traits, answers B and C strike as better candidates for the correct answer. If you reach such a conclusion, it might be sufficient to search for those specific words in the text and to try to affirm or contradict them as the correct answer.

Mechanical Reasoning Question
Elevator Aptitude Test sample

If the middle gear is rotating clockwise, which gear, A or B, will rotate in the same direction?

  1. Neither A nor B

The correct answer is C – Neither A nor B.

Elevator Aptitude Test sample

It can be observed from the image that gears A and B are linked directly to the middle gear. However, when two gears are directly linked, their tangential velocities are always the same, although the directions of their rotation are always opposite to each other.

In our case, the velocity vector between the middle gear and gear A will point upwards and the direction of rotation of the middle gear and gear A will be clockwise and counterclockwise respectively. Similarly, the velocity vector between the middle gear G and gear B will point downwards and the rotation of gear B will be counterclockwise. Hence both gears A and B will rotate in the opposite direction of the middle gear.

2. English Language Proficiency Sample Questions

English Language Proficiency Question 1 of 4

Select the one sentence (of the four listed) that best meets the requirements of standard written English.

  1. Many people use spray sunscreen to protect their skin from the sun’s rays, and it’s a quick and easy way to apply sunscreen.
  2. Many people use spray sunscreen to protect their skin from the sun’s rays, but it’s a quick and easy way to apply sunscreen.
  3. Many people use spray sunscreen to protect their skin from the sun’s rays because it’s a quick and easy way to apply sunscreen.
  4. Many people use spray sunscreen to protect their skin from the sun’s rays; therefore, it’s a quick and easy way to apply sunscreen.

The correct answer is C.

This sentence uses the correct conjunction, which indicates causality.

Answer A is incorrect because the word and means another thing and not causality.

Answers B and D are incorrect because the words but and therefore express an opposite idea and not causality.

English Language Proficiency Question 2 of 4

Select one underlined word or phrase that needs to be changed to make the sentence correct, or indicate that none of the underlined parts are in error.

Online forums are a place where we can get answers to our questions and calm our doubts where we can connect with other like individuals and grow virtual friendships.

  1. NO ERROR
  2. a place where
  3. doubts where we
  4. grow virtual

The correct answer is C.

This is a run-on sentence where one idea runs into the other. To correct this you can either add a conjunction such as “and” or add punctuation such as a period or semicolon.

English Language Proficiency Question 3 of 4

Select the one word or phrase that needs to be used in place of the underlined text to make the sentence correct, or indicate that the underlined text is not in error.

At Fire Island, a popular tourist spot east of the city, the remains of what might have been the shipping vessel were uncovered.

  1. has been
  2. NO ERROR
  3. had been
  4. having been

The correct answer is B.

Explanation: The word “might” is an auxiliary verb. Therefore, because of the addition of “might,” the only possible answer is “have been.”

English Language Proficiency Question 4 of 4

Put the following sentences into the correct order to create a logical and flowing paragraph.

Sentence 1. With an ever-increasing population, clean water is becoming even more essential in developing African countries and it is estimated that investments of over $800 billion will be needed in the next few years.

Sentence 2. Drink 2025 is an initiative which aims to unite 7 drought-affected African nations in order to conserve water supplies and provide citizens with an uninterrupted supply of drinkable water.

Sentence 3. The initiative will bring together water conservation experts from around the globe, government agencies, charities, multilateral organizations, and private companies in order to raise the needed capital.

Sentence 4. The investment will ensure Africa remains healthy and disease free for many years to come.

  1. 1, 2, 3, 4
  2. 1, 3, 4, 2
  3. 2, 4, 1, 3
  4. 4, 3, 1, 2

The correct answer is A.

Explanation:

The logical flow of the paragraph is as follows.

Introduce the problem > Introduce the solution > Talk about the aims of the solution > Conclusion

Note the vocabulary connections in each sentence too.

“Developing African countries” in the 1st paragraph pairs with “7 drought-affected African nations” in the 2nd.

“Drink 2025” in the 2nd pairs with “the initiative” in the 3rd.

“Needed capital” in the 3rd pairs with “investment” in the 4th.

When tackling this type of question, you must take these vocabulary connections into account.

3. Situational Judgment Sample Questions

Situational Judgment Question 1 of 4

The deputy director of your agency recently made an erroneous statement in a presentation at a business conference. This comment might lead some attendees to make errors that would be costly for their businesses.

What would be the BEST course of action to handle this situation?

  1. Post a correction on the agency’s website.
  2. Send a correction to all attendees.
  3. Tell agency staff to be prepared to answer questions about the topic.
  4. Correct the error the next time the deputy director makes a public presentation.

The best answer is B.

The erroneous statement made by the deputy director might have serious consequences. Specifically, it “might lead some attendees to make errors that would be costly for their businesses.” Given the seriousness of the situation, the agency has a responsibility to send a correction to all attendees (Option B). The complete breakdown of the answer is provided after the next question. Option A, posting a correction on the agency’s website, might only be seen in time by a fraction of the attendees at the meeting, or perhaps not by any of them. Option C, telling agency staff to be prepared to answer questions, is also an unreliable option; it would probably deliver the information primarily to attendees calling in after the fact who had already made the mistake. Option D is wrong because it does not say how soon the deputy director’s next presentation will be and because there’s no way to be sure all the same people will be in attendance.

Situational Judgment Question 2 of 4

The deputy director of your agency recently made an erroneous statement in a presentation at a business conference. This comment might lead some attendees to make errors that would be costly for their businesses.

What would be the WORST course of action to handle this situation?

  1. Post a correction on the agency’s website.
  2. Send a correction to all attendees.
  3. Tell agency staff to be prepared to answer questions about the topic.
  4. Correct the error the next time the deputy director makes a public presentation.

The worst answer is D.

The erroneous statement made by the deputy director might have serious consequences. Specifically, it “might lead some attendees to make errors that would be costly for their businesses.” Option D is the worst course of action because it neither guarantees a timely response nor it guarantees that the audience in the previous presentation will be exposed to it. Option A, posting a correction on the agency’s website, might only be seen in time by a fraction of the attendees at the meeting, or perhaps not by any of them. It is better than option D because it may reach a greater audience. Option C, telling agency staff to be prepared to answer questions, is also an unreliable option; it would probably deliver the information primarily to attendees calling in after the fact who had already made the mistake but at least it makes sure that there can be some damage control.

Situational Judgment Question 3 of 4

What is least appropriate to include in an email that informs a job application that he or she has not been selected for the job after you have interviewed them?

  1. Thanking the applicant for applying for the job.
  2. Mentioning your positive impressions of the applicant.
  3. Beginning by informing the applicant that he or she has not been selected for the job.
  4. Sending the email from the department general email address rather than your own personal email address

The correct answer is D.

Source: iPREP

A rejection email should not be disrespectful. If the decision not to hire is yours, then it is recommended to send it personally from your work email address.

It is customary to begin with the rejection notice and not to have the applicant read a long introduction before (choice C). It is also definitely accepted to be polite and to thank the applicant and provide some positive feedback along with the rejection. These actions are important for maintaining a positive application experience and for providing the applicants with some tools for their next application.

Situational Judgment Question 4 of 4

Your supervisor sends you an email stating that a project you are about to finish must include a public relations campaign, an element that was not a part of the original work plan.

What is your best course of action?

  1. Meet with your teammates, develop a proposal for a public relations campaign, and present it to your supervisor.
  2. Recommend your supervisor that within the project’s scope, a press notification should be sufficient as it will require less effort and achieve the same results as a public relations campaign.
  3. Ask your supervisor to appoint another teammate to work with you on the campaign in order that you will not miss the deadline.
  4. Ask your supervisor to describe exactly what must be included in the campaign.

The correct answer is A.

Source: iPREP

As an employee, you should generally assume that if your supervisor has asked you to perform a task, it is both required and applicable.

It is not recommended to start by implying that the request is not required (as in choice B) or not applicable (as in choice C).

It is always recommended to be proactive and present your supervisor with an initial plan (as in choice A). Probably, if additional means are required in order to complete the task, the supervisor will better understand them and be more receptive to provide them, if a plan is adequately presented. Choice D presents a passive course of action which may imply some unwillingness to perform the task. You are always accepted to think and plan your projects and display a can-do attitude rather than just to dully follow instructions.

4. Personality Test Sample Questions

Rate your agreement with the following statements:

Personality Statement 1

I often worry about my past mistakes –

  • Strongly Agree
  • Agree
  • Disagree
  • Strongly Disagree

The statement “I often worry about my past mistakes” is similar to statements in the HPI’s Adjustment scale and specifically how guilt-free you are. It tries to assess whether you are quick to justify yourself after making a mistake or whether you are prone to worry about past mistakes.

If you answered “True” and you would answer similarly in other cases, it means that you are mistake-averse and tend to feel guilty about your mistakes. It also means that you will do your best to avoid them.

This is an important quality for people who deal with science and very expensive materials, and that any mistake of theirs might be costly for the employer. On the other hand, it is not a highly needed quality for online marketers who practice a lot of trial and error.

Personality Statement 2

I am more ambitious than my friends –

  • Strongly Agree
  • Agree
  • Disagree
  • Strongly Disagree

The statement “I am more ambitious than my friends” is similar to statements in the HPI’s Ambition scale and speaks specifically to how competitive you are. It tries to assess whether you enjoy competition, perceive work as a competition with your colleagues, or are rather laid back about it.

Competitiveness is an important quality for positions in which teammates compete for bonuses or other perks. It might be less important and even unwanted for jobs that require collaboration between a few individuals, or in jobs that hardly measure personal achievement.

Personality Statement 3

People have hidden motives when they offer help –

  • Strongly Agree
  • Agree
  • Disagree
  • Strongly Disagree

The statement “People have hidden motives when they offer help” is similar to statements in the HDS’s Skeptical scale and specifically how cynical you are. It tries to assess whether you are prone to doubt others’ intentions and assume they have bad ulterior motives.

High scorers on this scale are prone to negativity and are quarrelsome, while low scorers may not examine others’ true intentions carefully enough.

Personality Statement 4

I dress for work so I can blend into the crowd –

  • Strongly Agree
  • Agree
  • Disagree
  • Strongly Disagree

The statement “I dress for work so I can blend into the crowd” is similar to statements in the HDS’s Colorful which tries to assess how attention-seeking you are.

Both extremes of this scale may interfere with your work. You may seem too colorful to the point of having no self-restraint. On the other hand, if you are too timid, you may not be able to make a strong impression on others and lack outward confidence.

Well done!

Customer testimonial

This is an awesome prep for the test. It is definitely helping me determine what my strengths and weaknesses are. I can focus more on what I need the most help in but also review things I am good at. It goes in to great detail with al the subject matter and it is easy to understand. It was nice for me to get a refresher in subjects I haven’t studied in awhile. I am hopeful that I will pass my test now that I feel more confident with my abilities. Thank you Iprep.

TEST-LEVEL MATH PRACTICE QUESTIONS 5 , there is a mistake in the calculation of the correct reply for the question 14: 1. 14. Question Simplify the following expression: 2(-5x3+ 3x) + 3 (2x3 + 4x) o A. –4x3 + 18x o B. 16x3 + 18x o C. 4x3 + 18x o D. –4x3 + 6x Incorrect The correct answer is C. Simplify the expression and add the like terms. 2(-5x3+ 3x) + 3 (2x3 + 4x) = -10x3 + 6x + 6x3+12x = 4x3 + 18x THE CORRECT ANSWER SHALL BE "A"

Hello, there is an omission in TEST-LEVEL MATH PRACTICE QUESTIONS 1, 10. Question Sasha has $195 more than Josh. After Sasha spends $85 to buy a handbag, she has 3 times more money than Josh. How much money does Sasha have? A. $88 B. $110 C. $45 D. $55 As you can see none of the answers is above $195, the amount on which Sasha should have had more money than Josh. Actually, the correct answer $55 is the amount of money Josh had. So, the question shall be adjusted accordingly. Sincerely,

iPrep's IELTS class offers comprehensive preparation with tailored study materials and expert guidance. Their interactive sessions and practice tests ensure proficiency in all sections of the exam. However, more emphasis on individual feedback could enhance the learning experience.

The tests provide a great opportunity to learn, though it would be desirable to have more samples for practicing, as inference and deduction tests are somehow difficult for foreigners to guess correctly from the first attempt, due to different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
